The HSE has been a victim of a significant ransomware attack which has forced it to shut its IT systems.
“We have taken the precaution of shutting down all our our IT systems in order to protect them from this attack and to allow us fully assess the situation with our own security partners,” said a statement.
The issue has led to Dublin’s Rotunda Hospital cancelling most outpatients visits today.
The Maternity Hospital says it’s experiencing a “major ransomware / cyberattack which is affecting all of the hospitals electronic systems and records.” All appointments are cancelled today except for patients who are 36 weeks or over pregnant.
It is believed that the attack has also affected other hospitals, however it is not confirmed at this time.
