An Inishowen man has pleaded guilty to a number of charges of robbery, burglary and criminal damage after appearing at Buncrana Circuit Court.

John Paul Harkin was arraigned on a number of charges and pleaded guilty.

They include theft at Henderson’s Shoes and Sport in Buncrana, theft and using force at Bridgend Texaco Service Station, theft at the Texaco Filling Station in Muff and burglary at North West Gas in Carndonagh.

Harkin, aged 41, is also charged with escaping from lawful custody at Burnfoot Garda station on July 23rd, 2009.

He also pleaded guilty to endangerment on July 24th, 2009 at Carndonagh when he reversed into the private car of an off-duty member of An Garda Siochana.

Barrister for the accused, Mr Peter Nolan instructed by solicitor Rory O’Brien, said his client has been on remand at Castlerea Prison for a year.

He said some of these incidents went back as far back as 2006 and said that Mr Harkin has now got his life back on track.

He asked for a probation report on the accused who had an address at Millar’s Way, Carndonagh.

Judge Sarah Berkeley adjourned the case for sentence until the next sitting of the Circuit Court on July 13th.

Sentencing is to be heard on a full facts basis.
