Anger over proposed telecommunications mast in Rathmullan

THERE is growing anger and opposition to a proposed telecommunications mast in Rathmullan.

Locals in the seaside village are concerned at the proximity of the 18-metre monopole to St Joseph’s National School.

It is expected that around a dozen objections to the proposed development will be lodged with Donegal County Council by the close of business today – the deadline for submissions on the issue.

Several local residents have already expressed their concern and will submit their objections to the Local Authority.

Eircom Limited have sought planning permission for the installation of an 18-metre monopole carrying antennas, associated equipment, together with ground-based equipment cabinets and associated site development.

The proposal says the monopole is for ‘wireless data and broadband services’ and is located at the Eir Exchange at Pound Street, Rathmullan.

“It is only a couple of hundred metres from the school and the children all come down the back of this,” one resident said.

“This mast would also be in close proximity to the side of the road and there is nothing but built-up residential areas around.”

Planning permission was sought in April and Donegal County Council say that a decision is due on the application on June 17.
