AMBER Barrett scored a late consolation goal as the Republic of Ireland women’s side lost a friendly to Iceland.

Barrett, who came on as a substitute, netted in the 92nd minute, but the Girls in Green lost 3-2 at Laugardalsvöllur in Reykjavík.

Ireland were 3-0 in arrears at half-time with Albertsdottir, Johannsdottir and Brynjarsdottir all scoring for Iceland.

Barrett came on at half-time and she had a hand in Ireland’s opener, four minutes into the new half with heather Payne riffling home from close range.

In added time, Barrett latched onto a Niamh Fahey pass to slot home.

Vera Pauw’s Ireland are now eight games without a win.

Donegal duo Ciara Grant and Roma McLaughlin – who made their returns to the Irish set-up after respective absences – were unused substitutes.

Interestingly, Barrett replaced her second cousin, Aoife Colvill, the Australian-born Glasgow City striker who was making her Irish debut this evening.

Colvill’s mother Siobhan, nee Barrett, hails from Letterkenny and is a cousin of Barrett’s father, SP.
