CAOLAN Kelly feels as if Glenswilly’s youngsters are beginning to come of age.
An inexperienced Glenswilly came from four points down after two minutes to draw with Bundoran this afternoon.
It is a new-look Glenswilly, but Kelly saw some of the old traits in the new faces.
“We haven’t been with the younger boys long enough to know what kind of resole they have, what kind of grit and determination they have,” he told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub after the 1-14 apiece draw.
“It was brilliant to see that come out of them, that they stood up and took the game by the scruff of the neck. They did the battling for us.”
Alan Russell’s second-minute goal had Bundoran in command but Caoimhinn Marley’s goals midway through the second half was a huge moment for Glenswilly.
Among the newcomers to the ranks this year are Kelly’s nephew and Godson, Jake, who made his senior debut as a substitute.
Kelly, a senior championship winner with Glenswilly, was content with the share of the spoils despite his side having had a three-point lead in the closing stages.
He said: “The way that we gathered ourselves after about ten or fifteen minutes, we got back into the game and we actually started to play the better football.
“Maybe we should have been able to hold it, but with the young squad we have, we’ve learned a lot about the younger players that have come into the team.
“By God, they have talent and they have the bit of grit Glenswilly would be known for.”
