A large whale has stranded on sandbanks in Lough Swilly.
It is understood the creature, believed to be a Fin Whale, was first spotted yesterday (Saturday) close to Castlegrove House.
A number of concerned members of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group have attended the scene.
It was hoped the rising tide may take the struggling creature, estimated to be 50 feet long, back out to sea.
However, the whale was pushed further towards the shore.
It is not know how long the creature will survive but those on the scene said its breathing is laboured.
