A Donegal GP has said that spikes of Covid-19 in Inishowen are a cause of alarm and concern.
Incidence rates in South Inishowen are six times the national average and five times above national average in North Inishowen. They are among the three highest rates in Ireland, with Buncrana at the top of the table, Dungarvan in Waterford second, and Carndonagh third.
Buncrana GP Dr Ciara Steele told RTE’s Morning Ireland it is “very difficult to understand” the rising case numbers.
The latest figures revealed that Donegal has much higher test positivity rates than any other county at 8-9%.
Dr Steele said positivity rates in the Buncrana area are around 20%.
“That is a cause of alarm and concern, and I think complacency with regard to guidelines and adherence to known measures that are known to prevent disease are the enemy here.”
Dr Steele stated is is difficult to determine if people travelling to Derry for indoor dining is a reason for the high case numbers, but added that family outbreaks have shown to lead to the highest spikes in Covid-19.
