The principal of Crana College has welcomed earlier confirmation that a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) has been confirmed for Buncrana’s new Three School Campus.
The CPO, without modifications, will see the purchase of ten acres of land in the town, near the Cockhill Road and Causeway Road.
The search for a site for the three-school campus, which will host more than 800 students from Crana College, Gaelscoil Bhun Cranncha and Coláiste Chineál Eoghain, has been ongoing since 2006.
Mr Kevin Cooley, Crana College Principal, said he is delighted with the news.
“Crana College staff and management, past and present, have sought an education facility that will not only help to deliver the curriculum as we are now but well into the future too,” he said.
“The acquisition of the long awaited site for our new school is a significant first step in a journey that we have been waiting nearly 20 years to begin. Our next focus will be starting work with relevant bodies very soon on the planning and building stages so that we will see the completion of the project in as short a time frame as possible.”
Mr Cooley took the opportunity to thank the whole school community of staff, students, parents, Parents’ Association, board of management, Donegal ETB, Donegal County Council, public representatives, the media and the people of Buncrana.
“I especially want to pay tribute to the determination and efforts of Crana College’s New School Committee in the last few years. I have no doubt that this news would not have come today if it hadn’t been for their work,” he concluded.
