Covid-19 testing centres in Donegal continue to record Ireland’s highest positivity rates.
Positivity is at 11% at a Donegal test centre, while the average rate in Ireland is 4.6%.
HSE CEO Paul Reid warned that he expects the level to rise further.
Health officials today highlighted concerning Covid-19 rates in Donegal, Sligo and Waterford. The 14-day incidence rate has jumped in Donegal to 359.9 per 100,000 – three times the national average.
Mr Reid said there is “real race to get the vaccine out ahead of the spread of the Delta variant”.
Speaking at a HSE briefing, he said it is likely that the pace of growth of the Delta variant will “outmatch our supply of vaccines over the coming weeks.”
