Rathmullan and District Local History Society recently joined with the local community to unveil a bench in memory of the late Mally Stanford (nee Cochrane).

To mark Mally’s contribution to her beloved Rathmullan, the society commissioned the bench which is situated just in front of the playground which is overlooked by Mally’s family home.

Eilis McGlynn from the history society said, “Mally was such a vibrant and active member of the community, and she was taken far too soon. However, her legacy is the wonderful all-inclusive children’s playground at the beach which she part-funded and completed with fundraising. It has brought joy and pleasure to children and parents alike.”

Councillor Ian McGarvey joined Mally’s family to officially unveil the bench.

Mally’s sister Frances and extended family were delighted to take their seats on the bench and enjoy the wonderful view across Lough Swilly.

Frances added: “What a wonderful gesture. We are all deeply touched and honoured to see Mally’s bench in this perfect spot just below her family home.”
