Gardaí clear up confusion over Four Lane speed limit

A 50km/hr speed limit is now enforceable on the N56 (four lane road) in Letterkenny, gardaí have confirmed.

While roadworks take place between the Polestar and Dry Arch Roundabouts over the next year, the official speed limit has been reduced temporarily to 50km/hr.

The old 80km/hr limit is no longer in place.

Gardaí confirmed today that the speed limit will drop to 60km/hr when the works are complete.

Nighttime roadworks began in the area this month and are taking place from 7pm to 7am. There are reduced lanes and traffic management in place for the duration of the project.

Sgt Eunan Walsh of Letterkenny Garda Station is advising motorists to slow down and adhere to the new 50km/h limit: “It does not mean that if you are coming in during the day and you don’t seen any workers that it is okay to break the speed limit. It’s not. There will be cones and other equipment on the road during the day so it’s important that we keep everybody safe.”
