End of August for 2020 Donegal SFC final with short reign for champions

THE 2020 Donegal senior football championship final will be played at the end of August.

The game, between Naomh Conaill and Kilcar, will take place on the weekend ending August 29.

The exact day and time has yet to be determined with a decision expected to be made over this coming weekend.

The All-Ireland football final is due to take place on Sunday, August 29. While the Donegal SFC final could be played on the Sunday evening, playing it on Friday 27 or Saturday 28 appear the more likely avenues to pursue.

It will be a short reign as the champions for whoever captures Dr Maguire, with the 2021 Donegal SFC pencilled in to get underway on the weekend ending September 12.

The league phase of the championship will run over four consecutive weekends.

The SFC quarter-finals are scheduled for the weekend of October 17, the semi-finals for the weekend of October 24.

The 2021 Donegal SFC final is fixed for the weekend of November 7.

First, Naomh Conaill – the last SFC winners following a dramatic final that was replayed twice in 2019 – and Kilcar have to joust to be crowned as the 2020 kingpins.

The 2020 final was originally due for the end of September 2020, but after a positive Covid-19 case in the Kilcar squad, it was moved to October 7.

A subsequent CCC meeting switched the game to October 11, but when the GAA announced a nationwide cessation of club games, the final was among the high profile casualties and it has been on the back burner ever since.
