THE THUNDER had just rolled when a large group ore athletes took to Finn Valley AC for an open jumps meet on Wednesday night.

in searing temperatures, some impressive displays caught the eye.

Not least of them, the recently-crowned Irish triple jump champion Conall Mahon, the Tir Chonaill AC man recording the best leaps in the long jump and triple jump events on the night.

This meet following a throws meeting the previous Wednesday, offering participants a chance to compete against their season bests in a competitive environment.

Magon jumped 6.63m in the long jump and 13.56m in the triple.

Finn Valley AC’s ever-improving Oisin Thompson had a fine night at the office, recording two big PBs.

Thompson was 6.53m in the long, 12.35m in the trip and 1.70m in the high, enjoying a big battle with Peter Fryers of Sparta – who also had a best of 1.70m – in the latter event.

Seven clubs took part and Finn Valley AC’s former Irish Olympic team manager Patsy McGonagle said: “It’s something I feel the Donegal Athletics Board could now take up, holding shortened meets – for example throws, jumps, sprints – on a regular basis for local athletes.”
