The Covid-19 rate in the North Inishowen area is over eight times the national average, according to new figures.

335 people have picked up the virus in the Carndonagh area in the past two weeks.

The incidence rate in the area is 1,975 cases per 100,000 people in the past two weeks. This is more than eight times the national average of 246 per 100,000.

Buncrana is the second-worst hit area of the country with a rate of 1,238 per 100,000. There were 277 new cases of Covid-19 in this local electoral area in the past two weeks.

Covid-19 case numbers have increased in almost every local area of Donegal this month, apart from Letterkenny where there was no change.

Nationally, there are four local areas of Donegal counted among the ten worst affected regions of the country. They are Carndonagh, Buncrana, Donegal and Lifford-Stranorlar.
