A suicide prevention charity is asking Donegal people to support their August Bank Holiday fundraising drive.

North West STOP invites you to rise early to greet the dawn in ‘Sunrise for STOP’ any morning of the weekend of July 31-August 2, to support their free counselling services throughout the Northwest.

You can greet the sunrise where you please, obviously, somewhere outdoors would be best!

Sign up here to receive a t-shirt/registration pack and follow them on Facebook or Instagram for updates by searching ‘North West STOP’.

The charity provides free counselling throughout the northwest and surrounding areas, including Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal as well as Cavan, Roscommon, Longford and Mayo.

More information is available on their Sunrise for STOP | Facebook event page should you wish to share their campaign and via their home Facebook page should you want to learn more about our charity.

STOP Suicide was founded in 2004 by families who were bereaved by suicide.

It is a community, voluntary body that works to prevent suicide by informing, educating and promoting positive suicide prevention policies throughout the West and Northwest of Ireland.

Their purpose is to provide a safe, confidential place where those who request assistance can talk about the loss, stress, confusion, conflicts and other pain in their lives.

Their counselling number 086 777 2009 is manned from 8.00am to 9.00pm and they aim to put callers in touch with a counsellor within 24 hours.

The charity has a list of fully accredited counsellors located in Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal, Cavan, Roscommon, Longford and Mayo whom they can call on to provide counselling on a no fee basis.

This service is totally free to their clients and is funded primarily by voluntary donations and community fundraising events.
