Gallen glad to be back in groove as MacCumhaills begin to hit form

AFTER a trying start to their Division 2 campaign back-to-back wins have lifted the mood around Sean MacCumhaills again.

The Twin Towns men upset the odds to defeat the Division’s pacesetters, Aodh Ruadh, two weeks ago.

Last weekend, the return of Oisin Gallen helped to inspire a derby win at St Mary’s, Convoy, the Donegal panelist popping over nine points in the 1-14 to 0-8 win.

“It was my first full game in a long time,” Gallen said afterwards.

“It was good to get that under the belt, especially in that heat.

“It’s good to get back in playing football. We have a long season ahead still with the club. I’m looking forward to the next few months. It’s great to be back.”

Gallen was in inspired form on his return to the club colours on Sunday.

Gallen looked every inch a man on a mission to impressive as he kicked points from all angles.

He said: “The boys had a tough start to the league, but we have bounced back now again and have some points on the board. The aim now is to get more points on the board.

“It was a massive win against Aodh Ruadh, especially with so many men out. We need to push on now and pick up more League points heading into the Championship. Getting these wins will stand us in good stead.”

The Paul Rouse-managed side still have to welcome the likes of Steven O’Reilly, Andrew McCloskey, Aaron Gilooley. Luke Gavigan and Martin O’Reilly to the staring XV.

Gallen said: “We have boys coming back from injury so hopefully they’ll help to kick things on. You need that strong squad if you want to push on.

“We have a few boys now on the starting team who won’t be giving up their jersey too easy though..

“It’s good that things aren’t rushed. A lot of clubs have boys picking up soft tissue injuries, a lot of that coming from the lack of training, so it’s a positive that we’re not rushing into Championship.”
