A lifetime of training will be put on the line tonight when Milford’s Brendan Boyce takes to the starting line for the 50km walk at the Olympic Games in Sapparo tonight.
The race begins at 9.30pm Irish time which will be 5.30am in Japan.
Excitement has been building in Boyce’s hometown ahead of the race.
Boyce is an outside medal hope having finished sixth in the world championships in Doha in 2019.
The Finn Valley Ac man is reported to be in good shape and looking forward to tonight’s race.
Heat will still be a factor despite the early local race start which was moved out of Tokyo for that very reason.
Speaking yesterday Boyce said “Tomorrow I return to the arena. To unleash the animal I spent 30 years creating. I’ve had immense support across my whole career and no more so than the last year.
“The work has been done, the time set 21:30 Irish Time….the land of the rising sun will tell a story tomorrow.”
