ADRIENNE Gallen continued her superb form of late at the Irish Life Health National Juvenile Track & Field Championships in Tullamore today.

The rising Lifford-Strabane AC star recorded a Championship best performance to win the women’s hammer.

Gallen launched out to 60.90 metres to take the title.

Last week, Gallen claimed a bronze medal at the Franconville U18 Meet in France, where she threw out to 57.63m.

Gallen was well ahead of Midleton’s Leah Parker (42.77) and Julia Kelly from Waterford (37.42m).

Not to be outdone, Gallen’s younger sister, Caoimhe, won the gold in the user-15 hammer throw, with a best of 49.61m. Her club colleague Muireann McBride was the bronze medalist with a 44.38m throw.

A week after breaking the Finn Valley AC club record – a mark that had stood for the last 33 years – Cara Laverty won the under-19 800m in 2:16.84. Laverty was well in command of the race, daylight between her and her nearest competitor, Jennifer Nugent from Trim (2:22.57).
