The first vaccinations for 12-15-year-olds are expected to be administered this weekend.
The registration portal will open on Thursday and give children the chance to apply for either the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Parental/guardian consent is required.
The HSE said: “Children aged 12 to 15 who are not at high risk can decide to get vaccinated now or wait until there is more information about COVID-19 vaccines and young people.”
The vaccine will be administered to this age group through vaccination centres, GPs and pharmacies.
As of last night, over 6.1million vaccine doses were administered in Ireland. More than 9,000 first doses were given at walk-in vaccination centres. Now, almost three in four of those age 16+ in Ireland are fully vaccinated.
