Aodh Ruadh overcome Naomh Columba to seal Division 1 return

AODH Ruadh got the points they needed to clinch promotion to Division 1 with a win over Naomh Columba at Pairc na nGael.

Aodh Ruadh took advantage of the breeze in the first half, leading 1-8 0-5 in first half.

Philip Patton (free) and Shane McGrath got them off and running but Glen levelled with points from Ronan Gillespie and Aaron Doherty.

In the 10th minute, the game winning goal arrived as Michael McKenna finished from close range and Patton kicked three more points.

Gillespie and Doherty ended the scoring in the first half for Naomh Columba.

The second half got going as Ryan Gillespie and another free from the boot of Doherty in the first ten minutes kept Glen ticking.

A fisted point from Colm Kelly got Aodh Ruadh their first of the second half.

Two more points from Doherty, one from play, left a goal in it with the minutes left.

Points were exchanged between Cian Dolan and Ryan Gillespie before Nathan Boyle curled over a free to leave five in it with five to play.

Two Ryan Gillespie frees left it just a goal between the teams, but the goal was to eluded the home side as the final whistle went and Aodh Ruadh clinched promotion.
