The main Ballybofey to Donegal town road remains closed this morning as Gardaí continue to investigate yesterday’s fatal accident at Barnesmore.

Diversions are in place via Glenties.

The tragic incident occurred in the townland of Ardnawark at approximately 3.45p.m. when a woman in her late 20s fell from a moving bus and was subsequently hit by a passing car.

The injured woman, believed to be from west Carlow, was airlifted by helicopter to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, however she passed away last night. A post mortem will take place in due course.

It is believed the young woman was part of a wedding party that was on its way to Strabane following a reception the previous day at Harvey’s Point Hotel.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward. Any road users who were travelling in the townland of Ardnawark, Barnesmore Gap, Donegal Town yesterday afternoon and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make it available to Gardaí.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Donegal Town Garda Station on (074) 9740190, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
