Donegal athletics quintet set for UK School Games

FIVE athletes from Donegal clubs will compete at the UK School Games this week at Loughborough University.

The UK School Games take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Olympian YAC’s Sophie Parlour goes in the 100m while Finn Valley AC’s Blaine Lynch will compete in the javelin.

Lifford-Strabane AC trio Ellie McCurdy (pictured, javelin), Harriet McCrossan (300m hurdles) and Finn O’Neill (100m hurdles) are also set to take part.

The multi-sport games will welcome 1500 young athletes and a workforce of over 700 coaches and support staff and has a strong track record of providing talented athletes with a springboard to then go on to compete at national level.

he aim of the School Games is to create an inspirational setting for young athletes to experience a high-level competition setting by providing a dedicated Athlete Education Programme, Ceremony, Athlete Village, Accreditation and team kit.

From St Johnston and now based in Letterkenny, Chris was a nominee for NUJ Sports Journalist of the Year in 2010. Honoured by the Donegal Boxing Board in 2016 for his coverage on the sport.
