There is widespread sadness across Donegal and Derry following the death of Pat Hume.
Mrs Hume, the wife of the late John Hume, passed away this afternoon after a short illness.
A former teacher, Mrs Hume was seen as the driving force behind her late husband’s brilliant political career.
She previously ran the SDLP office in Derry.
The mother-of-five was deeply involved in finding resolutions to conflict in Derry alongside her husband.
In later years when John developed dementia, Pat cared for her husband and gave him unwavering support as he battled his illness.
Mrs Hume’s funeral details will be released later.
