Ladies GAA: Eunan’s Minors crowned County A Champions

ST EUNAN”S Minor girls have been crowned County A Champions after victory over Carndonagh at O’Donnell Park this evening.

Dermot Higgins’ team were the outstanding team in this year’s competition, going through the season unbeaten and taking out pre-tournament favourites and 2020 champions St Naul’s along the way.

Good wins over Aodh Ruadh, Termon, Killybegs and Downings meant St Eunan’s could afford to lose to Carndonagh this evening in Letterkenny, but a superb performance was served up regardless.

The black and amber girls scored four goals in the first half against a dogged Carn team to set up the win.

County star Alisha Tobin top-scored in the game with 2-03, with rising star Orla Malseed contributing 1-01. Hannah Hopkins hit three glorious points from distance and sub Emma Gribben grabbed 1-02.

Two other county players – Sinead MacIntyre (pictured above with mum and coach Catriona) – and captain Shauna Higgins also pointed for the home side to leave them 4-11 to 0-04 ahead when referee Gerard McHugh blew the final whistle.

This was a real team performance, aided by younger players coming through the St Eunan’s ranks.

The unflappable Sophie McFeely was superb at full-back and her work in defence helped keep the Inishowen girls’ score down.

And there were outstanding performances throughout the defence, in particular from the excellent Sine Ryan and the tenacious Ella Gallagher.
