DACC stress importance of attending BreastCheck appointment

Donegal Action for Cancer Care are urging any women with BreastCheck appointments in Donegal Town to attend for screening.

The call comes after concerns were raised regarding women from Inishowen being invited to attend the screening unit in Donegal Town. The Donegal Town mobile unit reported an unprecedented number of women cancelling their appointments and not turning up.

DACC wrote to the National Screening Service over the confusion. The BreastCheck providers replied: “Our computer system is set up to invite women in the Inishowen District Electoral Division (DED) to Letterkenny for screening. We apologise if any women from this area have been invited for screening in Donegal town in error.”

The National Screening Service confirmed that appointment letters clearly state the date and location supplied by their scheduling tool.

DACC campaigner Betty Holmes said the group hopes that this response will help and again stress the importance of attending your Breast Check appointment.

“The 2nd unit in Donegal Town is temporary and only there until the 15th October so attend please. DACC extend thanks to Breast Check for making the 2nd unit available to Donegal Town when an opportunity became possible,” Ms Holmes said.

“DACC again ask if you can’t make your appointment contact Breast Check and let them know so the appointment can be rescheduled for you and your cancelled one offered to someone else please.”
