A Donegal man has raised an impressive £5,000 for Foyle Hospice after completing one of Ireland’s most gruelling challenges – The Race.
The Race 2021 was cancelled at short notice this year, but that didn’t stop Ciaran McLaughlin from Quigley’s Point pushing himself to complete it last month.
Ciaran completed 250km in 18 and half hours which was short of the 24-hour time frame given to complete the challenge.
All his amazing efforts were in aid of Foyle Hospice in his sister’s memory.
The late Jacqui Campbell, who passed away in 2019, was an inspirational, kind and caring person who fundraised for Foyle Hospice for many years. Her legacy of goodwill and generosity is continuing through her amazing family, who have given so much time, love and support to Foyle Hospice.
It was an honour to have Ciaran present a cheque to the hospice fundraising team with Jacqui’s two daughters Katie and Niamh standing proudly by his side.
Ciaran had trained for several months for The Race, dedicating his time not only to training but to fundraising. He pushed himself and worked extremely hard to get ready for the run. His determination, hard work and love, pushed him to complete his challenge and to raise vital funds.
Sheila Duffy, Director of Income Generation and Communications said: “We can’t thank Ciaran enough for his commitment, devotion and ongoing support in memory of his beloved sister Jacqui. He truly is a Hospice Hero! This donation will make such a difference to patients and their families. Giving and fundraising in memory is such a beautiful way to help your local hospice and to remember a loved one.”
Foyle Hospice greatly depends on the generosity of their donors and the commitment and support of volunteer fundraisers in the community to enable them to continue to care for patients and their families throughout the North West. They are especially touched by people in the community who choose to fundraise in memory of a family member or friend who has been cared for by Foyle Hospice. These special fundraising efforts ensure that the Hospice can continue to provide first class holistic and specialist palliative care in our community.
