A motorist was arrested in Donegal town last night for suspected drink driving.
Donegal Town Roads Policing Unit conducted a number of Mandatory Intoxicant Testing (MIT) checkpoints in the area of Donegal town and Pettigo.
One driver who was stopped in the Donegal town area tested positive for driving under the influence of alcohol. An arrest was made and the driver was charged to appear in court on a later date.
“This Bank Holiday Weekend and always, please drive safely and make wise decisions when it comes to road safety,” a garda spokesperson said.
“Making a decision to drive whilst under the influence of alcohol/drugs can have devastating consequences. Excess speed can and does kill so please slow down! Wear your seatbelt and ensure others in your vehicle are wearing theirs also. Never use/hold a mobile phone while driving. If you are a passenger in a car and the driver is driving while under the influence or if they are driving too fast, then please get out.”
