Fund established to help Donegal woman battling cancer in New York

A Go Fund Me page has been set up for a Letterkenny woman who is battling to beat cancer in New York.

Karen McDermott will be known to many after she worked at An Grianan Theatre for two years between 2015 and 2017.

The 31-year-old moved to New York and set up her own business, a small toy shop called The March Hare in 2020.

However, Karen’s world hit a bit of a roadblock earlier this month when she was diagnosed with colon cancer.

Karen, who was also a lifeguard at the Aura Leisure Centre, admits that the future is a little bleak and the reality is that, like many people, she needs a little helping hand.

She said “Things are scary right now, and although I can’t work, medical and living expenses continue to build up.

“Since announcing my diagnosis on social media, I have been overwhelmed with the kind wishes and advice.

“I am so grateful for any donations, I am hoping for the best possible outcome.”
