Breakout at the Donegal Youth Service was delighted to host the first TENI Transgender Equality Network Ireland Conference in the Mount Errigal Hotel in October.

The event identified a need for further Trans & LGBTI+ supports in schools and professional settings.

Transgender awareness was the priority of the two days, as Hannah Solley and Gordon Grehan from TENI Transgender Equality Network Ireland delivered five interactive workshops.

Primary & Secondary school staff, professionals, parents and young people attended the event for training and question and answer time and a cafe style session.

Participants enjoyed refreshments and received an information pack with further details of services and support available.

The event was very well attended, post attendance evaluations were completed and stated that further Trans & LGBTI+ supports were needed by schools and professionals to include best practice and policy information and guidance.

A spokesperson for the Donegal Youth Service said: “The style of presentation was applauded and overall feedback was extremely positive identifying a need for specialised Transgender young people & parent supports in the County.”
