Parents could be asked to reduce their children’s extra activities to just once a week to curb the soaring number of cases of Covid among schoolchildren.
The drastic reduction in the number of playdates and other activities are proposals to be considered by Cabinet today.
The Government does not propose to ban playdates for kids but parents will be asked to cut them considerably.
Ministers are also expected to sign off on a recommendation that children aged over nine wear face masks in primary schools.

The public health officials said there had been a stabilisation of Covid infection figures in recent days, however, they said there are still concerns over infection rates and the level of socialisation.
Schools and the spread of the virus in them is a huge concern for the Government in the lead-up to the Christmas period.
