Sixteen deaths in Donegal were related to COVID-19 in the past month, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre reports.
This brings the number of Covid-19 related deaths in Donegal to 218 since the pandemic began.
Nphet yesterday reported a further 55 Covid deaths in Ireland in the past week (since last Wednesday). There has now been a total of 5,707 deaths related to Covid-19 notified in Ireland.
Meanwhile, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has said he is ‘sceptical’ of the need for new Covid restrictions before Christmas. Mr Varadkar told a meeting of the Fine Gael parliamentary party that the Covid situation is stable “or improving slightly” and doing well against models and projections.
Nphet will meet today to discuss the potential need for additional restrictions to control the transmission of Covid-19 over the Christmas period.
Mr Varadkar said the Government would listen carefully to Nphet’s advice before making any decisions.
