Move to have Donegal Garda cars fitted with defibrillators

Donegal Gardai have been urged to equip all their vehicles with defibrillators.

The call was made by Joint Policing Committee member and former Garda Sergeant James Trearty.

He made the call at the December meeting of the body.

Mr Trearty said because Donegal was such a large county there was a need to get to people in time.

He said not only should all Gardai be trained in the use of the equipment but if defibs could be placed in patrol cars they would certainly save lives.

Garda Chief Superintendent Terry McGinn said she would certainly look into the possibility.
