There has been huge demand for a limited edition print of one of the last paintings by late Donegal artist, Joseph Carlin.
Joe Carlin, from Crossroads, Killygordon, passed away peacefully on September 18 following a long battle with cancer.
He was just 54 years of age.
Friends of a popular east Donegal artist hope the sale of prints of one of his last paintings will raise much needed funds for his favourite charity – St Vincent de Paul (SVP).
Joe was an exceptionally talented, self-taught, abstract painter.
However, he will be best remembered as a great family and community man. A gentle and kind soul, he selflessly gave up his time for the local branch of SVP.
In recent years, he moved from his trademark dark colours and scenes to more colourful, vibrant works.
This, combined with his love of nature, can be seen here – in one of his final paintings.

Joe’s long-time friend and former classmate, Ballybofey photographer Gerard McHugh, is behind the fundraising venture.
“The idea was that this colourful limited edition print would brighten up your life, and bring a smile to your face, just like Joe would have done,” he said.
“And it seems to have worked – the first batch has already sold. So, we got 200 more copies printed and they are back in the shops now. In memory of this greatly loved man, all proceeds from the sale will go directly to the Crossroads/Killygordon branch of St Vincent de Paul.”
The beautifully packaged, limited edition prints can be purchased for €20 from the following outlets: Gerard McHugh Photography and Alexander’s Shop in Ballybofey, Bradley’s Shop in the Cross, Maguire’s Supermarket and Andie’s Superstore in Stranorlar and from the main reception in Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT). They can also be purchased directly from any member of the Carlin family.
