Today is the first day of the new restrictions with pubs, restaurants and cinemas closing their doors at 8pm to avoid a spread of the virus.
In Northern Ireland, 2,148 positive cases and one additional death have been reported in the past 24 hours.
The Tanaiste added that the combination of the booster programme, along with mask-wearing and reducing social contacts will be enough “to weather the Omicron wave”.
Ireland’s “world-beating vaccine programme” is the most significant thing we can do, along with individual actions, he said.
