There is shock following the news that 11,182 cases of Covid have been recorded today.
It’s the greatest single number since the pandemic began.
The Department of Health say an estimated 83% of these cases are now the Omicron variant.
There are 393 patients in hospital with 89 of these in intensive care.
Almost 390,000 people have received a booster dose of a Covid-19 vaccine this week, the chair of the high level taskforce on Covid-19 vaccination has said.
Speaking on RTÉ’s News at One Professor Brian MacCraith said 399,000 doses have been administered this week, of which “close to 390,000” boosters.
“As of 12 noon today, we are at 1.98 million.
“I am confident we will be at 1.99 million by the end of today.
“The original target we set for Christmas was 1.5 million.”
