Locals in Glenties have been left short-changed after an ATM cash machine was removed by the Bank of Ireland.
The Glenties Community Development Committee said they received no prior warning of the removal of the cash machine.
The town’s Bank of Ireland outlet is one of a number listed to be closed across the country.
A spokesperson for GCDC said “This was not flagged or forewarned in any way and we have sent an email to BOI asking why it is that the ATM has been removed when it was indicated that it was one of the few branches listed for closure that would retain its ATM.
“We have also asked as to what plans BOI have for the building itself and the reply will be posted here.”
A spokesperson for Bank of Ireland claimed they delayed decommissioning their ATM machine until another machine was installed on the town’s Main Street.
“When a branch closes this generally includes decommissioning the ATM at the time of closure.
“In Glenties, we retained our ATM beyond the branch closure date pending the arrival of an alternative Euronet ATM to the town, which was installed on Main Street in December. Our partnership with An Post also provides over the counter cash withdrawal for customers.
“Bank of Ireland operates 169 branches nationwide, the vast majority of which have an External ATM.”
There are still two other ATM machines in the town at Bows & Wreaths and also at Gala at Glenties Services.
