Donegal athletes have once again put on a show by coming away from the National Masters Indoor Championships in Athlone with 10 gold medals.
Caitriona Devine won the W45 1500m, and backed that up with a silver medal in the 800m in 2:28.68, just half a second off winner Aisling Ferguson in 2:28.04.
Caitriona’s sister Sinead McConnell won the W50 category of the 3000m walk and the sisters will be part of the Irish team who are participating in the European Master Athletics Championships Indoor (EMACI) in Braga, Portugal.
Also travelling to Braga is Ciara Kearns, who won the W35 long jump with a jump of 5.20m.
Martin Cunningham of Tír Chonaill AC won gold in the M40 1500. Cunningham with a winning time of 4:17.32.
Also for Tír Chonaill, Geraldine Stewart won the women’s 35-49 shot put, throwing a best of 11.71m.
While also in the shot, Finn Vaelly AC’s Bosco Reid won the 60-69 category with an 11.53, and Milford AC’s Martin Kerr took the M70 gold
Damian Crawford from Lifford-Strabane AC won the O50-59 shot with a best of 11.94m before coming second in the weight throw for distance, behind fellow Robert Anderson of of Tír Chonaill AC. Anderson’s best of 7.31m was narrowly better than the 7.28m Crawford threw.
Martin Mooney of Inishowen AC rounds off the gold medals, after winning the M35 60m hurdles, and winning bronze in the triple jump.
Kathryn McDevitt for Letterkenny AC picked up a silver medal in the W40 race with a time of 8.24 seconds. Kathryn made it a ‘double silver’ with a time of 27.23 seconds in the 200m race.
Also for Letterkenny AC, Brian McBride was a bronze medallist in the M65 1500m race in 6:49.
