Young Donegal goalkeeper Fintan Doherty has been named in the Republic of Ireland under-17 squad for upcoming friendlies in Spain.
The Letterkenny man will join up with Colin O’Brien’s young squad in Marbella for a double header against Belgium on Thursday (10th) and Saturday (12th) in the Dama de Noche Football Pitches.
Doherty plays for Derry City at underage level and was recently on the bench for Derry in a pre-season friendly with Drogheda United.
Ireland are preparing for competitive fixtures next month in the Elite Round of the UEFA Under-17 European Championship qualifiers.
They face a tough round of qualifiers where they’ll meet Elite Round hosts Portugal (March 23), followed by Finland (March 26) and Bulgaria (March 29).
Fifteen teams will advance from eight groups of the Elite Round phase and will join Israel, who qualified automatically as hosts.
