Finn Valley AC sisters Caitriona Devine and Sinead McConnell added to the tally of Donegal athletes winning European medals this week in Braga.
Caitriona came second yesterday in the W45 1500m with a time of 4:55.72 just behind Germany’s Miriam Paurat.
Sinead was a bronze medalist in the W50 5k walk as she was first home for Ireland to help them win a team bronze.
McConnell, like in the 3k earlier in the week, was only beaten by the French duo of Boban Valérie and Violaine Bray.
Meanwhile, closer to home, Mark English won gold at the National Senior Indoor Championships in Abbotstown.
The Finn Valley AC athlete won the 800m final with a time of 1:49.39, a second ahead of Cillian Kirwan and Roland Surlis.
The club also enjoyed a host of success in Dublin yesterday as Bridget McDyer set a new Donegal record in the women’s weight for distance (28lbs).
The Rosses native threw 6.46m as she won the silver medal, just behind Zoe Mohan (Cushinstown) who won with a 6.67m throw.
McDyer has been going from strength to strength as it’s already a big improvement on her old PB of 6.02m she set last month.
Also in the field events, Finn Valley had two men on the podium in the shot put.
James Kelly finished second and Gavin McLaughlin picked up the bronze medal as they threw bests of 17.33m and 16.57m respectively.
Brendan Boyce was the final Finn Valley athlete to win a medal as he finished second in the men’s 5km race walk.
Boyce finished in 21:02.24 to earn a silver medal, behind David Kenny of Farranfore Maine Valley A.C.who won with an impressive time of 19:36.38.
