Gardai have launched an investigation after the body of a man was found following a housefire in Glenties overnight.

The fire services were alerted to the scene of the fire shortly after midnight last night.

After the fire had been brought under control, members of the fire service discovered human remains inside the house.

Gardai remain at the scene and are carrying out a full forensic investigation.

However, a Garda spokesperson said they are treating the incident as a “tragic accident.”

The county coroner, Dr Denis McCauley, has been notified and a file will be prepared for the coroner’s court.
