Glencar Inn Saturday Division One

Cappry Rovers Reserves 2-4 Arranmore United

Arranmore United picked up a valuable three points away to Cappry Rovers to take them out of the relegation zone. Both teams had chances in the first half and it was the Islanders who broke the deadlock through a nice finish from Aidan Proctor. Cappry responded well and equalised when a Karl Mc Glynn’s cross found Matthew Wootton who headed home to level things up at half time.

Arranmore started the half the brighter and forced an OG to take the lead. They then doubled their advantage through a well worked corner found Gavin Mc Glanaghey who headed home from close range. As Cappry pushed Arranmore capitalised as Brian Proctor would extend their lead with a neat finish outside the box. Cappry got a consolation goal through David Carr but it was too little too late. Old Orchard Saturday Division Two

Ballybofey United Reserves 2-2 Castlefin Celtic Reserves

With only two matches remaining neither of these two East County sides could enhance their league standings so it was a case of playing for pride at Dreenan on Saturday afternoon. Ballybofey went two ahead with goals on ten minutes from Gavin Doherty and then Aaron Mc Auley doubled their advantage on fifty-five minutes. Reece Gallagher pulled a goal back for Castlefin just after both sides were reduced to ten men. The points were halved in the dying minutes when an own-goal gave the visitors a share of the spoils.

Brian McCormick Sports Premier Division

Castlefin Celtic 0-2 Bonagee United

Bonagee secured a vital three points in their quest for the League Title in a hard-fought victory over Castlefin. Castlefin had the better of the opening exchanges, Ronan Tourish hitting the crossbar from distance. Lee Mc Monagle also hit the frame of the goal for the visitors from close range just before the break. The second half remained a tight affair with few chances. In the 70th minute Bonagee took the lead, Aidan Mc Laughlin rifled into the bottom corner after a failed clearance. In the 78th minute Castlefin had an opportunity to equalise, Emmett White was fouled inside the penalty area but Gary Mc Nulty’s spot kick was saved by John Carr. Castlefin continued to press and left spaces at the back. Aaron Wasson capitalised and secured the points for the visitors.

Kildrum Tigers 1-0 Glenea United

A solitary Kevin McHugh goal ten minutes before the half time break gave Kildrum the three points. It was a game of very few chances, mainly due to William Lynch and Sean Coll commanding both defences very well. In a moment of quality from Oran Higgins he dribbled past two defenders before delivering an inch perfect cross which was headed home by McHugh.

McHugh, Toland and Higgins all had chances for the home side, while McGeever and McFadden had chances for the away side. Nothing could be added and the single goal was enough for Kildrum.

 Temple Domestic Appliances Division One

Drumoghill F.C. 0-5 Swilly Rovers

Swilly Rovers concluded their campaign in style with this comprehensive victory at The Moss and in doing so consigned the hosts to having to stare relegation in the face. Their hero on the day was Cameron Gormley who helped himself to four goals in an eye-catching performance.

Drumoghill now will be relying on results elsewhere, as well as needing to win their final game, if they want to have any chance of remaining in the Division. The home side were desperate for the win and started the game well but were undone when Gormley put the visitors ahead to give them the half time lead. Although behind, Drumoghill remained in the contest with Gareth Hamilton and Lee Smyth prominent in the first half.

The next goal was always going to be crucial and it was that man Gormley that doubled their lead on 55 minutes. Drumoghill had no response at this stage and further strikes from Gormley and Marty McDaid put the result beyond doubt. Gormley wrapped up the scoring on 84 minutes when he beat the offside trap to Oisin Coyle’s defence splitting pass.

On this form, Swilly will be one of the teams to watch next season in Division One whilst Drumoghill will be doing everything they can to hope that they remain there.

Referee: Barry Hunter.

Gweedore Celtic 2-1 Milford United

Two second half goals from Thomas Diver ensured Gweedore Celtic’s First Division status and in doing so he reached the milestone of having scored three hundred Donegal League goals since he scored his first goal in 1997.

Milford, trying to avoid relegation or the play-off position, had the perfect start when Joey Cullen got on the end of Wilson’s fine cross in the sixth minute to give them an early lead.

They pushed on looking for a second but failed to build on their advantage due in no small part to some resolute defending by Gweedore centre half Colin Mc Nichols who gave a man of the match performance and was also instrumental in setting up Diver’s second goal in the seventieth minute.

Gweedore’s second half performance was much improved with Micheal Roarty, Kieran Mc Hugh and Jamie Doherty gaining control of midfield. They drew level in the sixtieth minute when Roarty’s corner was powerfully headed home by Diver at the back post.

The second goal for Celtic arrived after sterling work by Roarty and when Mc Nichols played the ball through for Diver he finished brilliantly for the winning and historical goal. Minutes later Mc Gettigan in the Milford goal could only parry Jamie Doherty’s effort but he managed to prevent Diver from getting his hat-trick by tipping over the striker’s goal bound effort.

Milford threatened on the break and Gary Merritt’s cross was inches away from an equaliser when Cullen failed to connect. Pauric Winters should have had a third for Gweedore but he delayed his shot and Caolan Mc Gettigan managed to scramble the ball to safety. Milford battled to the end with good performance from Cullen, Merritt and Wilson. For Gweedore Thomas Diver, Colin Mc Nichols and Micheal Roarty were outstanding. Referee Diego Rainey

Raphoe Town 5-3 Cranford United

Fanad United clinched the Donegal League Division One title with a dramatic injury time winner in Emerald Park. In a thoroughly entertaining game St Catherine’s started well and the visiting keeper had to produce an acrobatic double save to foil Ryan Cunningham and Josh Maxwell.

Fanad began to threaten more and went ahead on 20 minutes when Declan O’Donnell headed home a free kick. Saints’ keeper Kevin Martin then made a dramatic save from Keelin Mc Elwaine before the home side equalised on 35 minutes, Ryan Cunningham scoring from the spot after a handball incident. Fanad started the second half strongly and on the hour mark were awarded a penalty for handball.

The resultant spot kick by Mc Elwaine was superbly saved by Kevin Martin. It was end to end stuff from there on with Mc Elwaine hitting the bar a few minutes and Dan Breslin being foiled twice by great saves from Mark Mc Conigley. Ryan Farrell had a late chance to win it for the home side, shooting narrowly wide after a good move, before Eddie O’Reilly popped up in the 94th minute to stab home the winner. This was an excellent match with superb performances from both sides. Referee: Marty Mc Garrigle.

Rathmullan Celtic 2-2 Ballybofey United

Rathmullan dominated the opening exchanges of this match. On the half hour mark, Hoops’ skipper Sheridan opened the scoring with a classy low strike from the edge of the area giving United keeper Bonner no chance in what was the only goal of the half.

Ballybofey, with all respect, against the run of play, equalised on the hour mark with an absolute peach of a goal from striker Damien Glackin, who struck an unstoppable strike from a cool 30 yards which smashed the underside of the crossbar into the back of the net.

United feeling inspired, shocked all in attendance with a second goal from Glackin on 70 minutes when the cunning striker controlled a chip over the Hoops’ defence to slot home at ease from inside the area with composure. The Hoops simply threw all and a sundry on the United box and finally cashed in with a stunning lobbed goal from Jay Curran which also hit the underside of the crossbar to cross the line for the equaliser.
