Gardaí have issued a warning to people to be aware of a “clever but costly” scam involving UK numbers.
The convincing scam involves people getting a missed call from a +44 number (UK). The person might naturally attempt to call the number back, but they are then slapped with huge fees.
Gardaí in Kilkenny said: “When you ring back you are automatically connected to a billing service and the connection cost 25 Euro per call.
“One lady from Kilkenny found this out who rang the number twice. 50 Euro down.
“Please be vigilant.”
The warning has been shared by Gardaí in Donegal to keep people on alert for such a scam.
