Three Donegal women have been called up for the Republic of Ireland squad for their Women’s World Cup qualifier against Georgia.
Letterkenny’s Ciara Grant, Milford woman Amber Barrett and Greencastle native Roma McLaughlin have been named in the squad, as they also face the Philippines this Sunday before a must win games against Georgia on Monday 27th June as they look to stay in the hunt for the play-off game.
Ireland are in third place, two points behind Finland who currently occupy the play-off position, while Sweden have already won the group.
Ireland have played one game less than Finland so a win against the bottom side would put them into a promising position before September’s double header against Finland and Slovakia.
Grant recently moved to Hearts from Rangers, having spent 5 months at the newly crowned Scottish Champions, and became the second ever full-time footballer at Hearts.
Meanwhile, Barrett’s Köln side stayed up in the Frauen Bundesliga, with Barrett scoring four times for them.
Roma McLaughlin is playing with Central Connecticut State University in the US.
Ireland defeated Georgia 11-0 in Tallaght in the reverse fixture and boosting their goal difference would give them an advantage incase the second place spot comes down to it.
