Funding of €114,000 has been announced to support six different projects on our Donegal islands.
The funding for community groups is a new ‘Our Islands’ measure under the Department’s CLÁR Programme and is designed to make our islands more attractive places to live and visit.
The funding includes new gym equipment, playground fencing and seating on Tory, a new mobile outdoor stage for Arranmore and replacement of fencing and gates at the Arranmore sports ground.
Welcoming the funding, Minister Charlie McConalogue said “Our island communities are a key element of our culture and tradition and are wonderful places to live in and to visit. The government is committed to helping island communities to help improve life for islanders and to help them attract more tourists. Donegal islands are major beneficiaries under today’s announcement and I thank Minister Humphreys for supporting our islands. I also thank all our councillors and community groups and volunteers who work tirelessly to keep our islands such wonderful places.”
