A fishing vessel which broke down off Malin Head was towed to safety by members of the Lough Swilly RNLI early this morning.

The RNLI volunteers were paged at 5.41am by Malin Head Coast Guard Radio to assist a fishing vessel which was three nautical miles off Malin Head.

The boat with two people onboard had developed mechanical issues and the crew safely towed the boat into Malin Pier.

The RNLI vessel returned to Buncana to refuel and make ready for service.

An RNLI spokesperson said “Remember if you’re in difficulty in or on the water, or see someone in trouble, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.”
