The government is considering a special double welfare payment this autumn to help people hit by the cost-of-living crisis, according to reports.
The Irish Independent today reports that a bonus, similar to the Christmas double payment, could be given to pensioners and social welfare recipients in a few months’ time.
The measure would be announced on Budget day which is expected in September.
It comes after the latest Eurostat report shows prices are up by 9.6 per cent in the past year.
Forecasts for the 2023 Budget include €10 increases to the weekly old age pension and other primary welfare benefits.
