A local county councillor has appealed to jet ski users not to use their machines close to the shore.
It follows an incident at Killahoey Beach in Dunfanaghy last week when people were put in danger.
County councillor Michael McClafferty revealed that local life guards were forced into action.
He said “There was an incident in Killahoey Beach in Dunfanaghy last week where people were swimming in the water close by the beach.
“Unfortunately, people on Jet skis came seriously close to swimmers unaware and the lifeguard of the day had to take immediate action and swim out to advise and educate them on health and safety and make them aware of the vulnerable swimmer.”
Councillor McClafferty added that the jet ski users were very respectful, apologised and moved out to a safe location and everybody enjoyed there day.
He added “People need to be aware that they need to taxi out to your safe location, via pier launch until they are at a destination of safety well out of harms way. It’s a big ocean out there.”
