Cloughaneely Golf Club enjoyed a very successful open week last week with great crowds gathering at the Ballyconnell venue.

The club would like to thank all sponsors, visitors and members for all their support during the week.

Whilst there was a good spread of winners throughout, the undoubted story of the week was Cian McGarvey beating David Hone’s long standing course record of 68.

Cian’s round started with 6 pars before 4 successive birdies on 7, 8, 9 and 10. The solitary blemish came at 11 with a bogey before picking up another birdie on the 14th.

This left Cian signing for a brilliant 66, beating the old record by 2 shots! All the more remarkable considering he had 34 putts – with two putt birdies on the par 5 8th and par 4 10th.

Everyone at the club is delighted for Cian and also very proud of him, a superb ambassador for the club both on and off the course. He has also achieved the dream of many golfers as his handicap has now been cut to scratch!
