Sizzling temperatures that gripped the country over the weekend are set to drop from today as our brief heatwave comes to an end.
The eastern half of the country will continue to bask in sunshine for a little longer with highs of 27 or 28 degrees.
The rest of the country will become cooler and fresher with highs of 16 to 22 degrees
The second highest temperature on record was recorded in Dublin’s Phoenix Park yesterday hitting 33.1 degrees.
In Donegal, the highest temperature recorded yesterday was 25.4 degrees at Finner Camp.
According to Met Éireann, it will be cooler in the county today with highs of 16 to 21 degrees.
It will be largely dry to start the day with hazy sunny spells.
However, cloud will thicken through the morning with outbreaks of showery rain spreading from the Atlantic, turning heavy at times with the chance of an isolated thundery downpour.
Light winds will increase moderate northwesterly by afternoon.
Becoming generally dry tonight with clear spells and just isolated light showers.
However, patchy rain may linger near eastern coasts of Ulster.
Cooler than previous nights with lowest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees in light to moderate northwest winds.
