Meanwhile, Keadue Rovers finished off their youth league season in 2nd place after this victory over Ballybofey Utd at Central Park on Monday evening.
In ideal conditions, both sides played at a decent pace with the home team on top in possession with Oran Fallon causing problems up front.
Ballybofey grew into the game and Daithi McMahon had a good effort for the visitors well saved. Further chances fell to Keadue and Odhran Gallagher had a good move down the left on sixteen minutes, ending with a shot wide of the far post.
However Ballybofey were getting lots of possession in the middle of the park and by the half hour had got the better of Keadue and went ahead shortly after that when a free kick on the left hand side was met by a Keadue head and over the keeper to give Ballybofey the lead on thirty five minutes.
They recovered well and pushed Ballybofey back towards the end of the first half, creating a few half chances but the defence wasn’t tested. Into the second half and with a few substitutions, Keadue began to take control and on forty nine minutes, were almost level when a ball over the top found Odhran Gallagher, who just tapped wide with the keeper advancing.
Keadue were level on fifty five minutes when an inswinging corner from Odhran Gallagher was headed to the net by Ethan McCaffrey. At this stage they were well on top and Gallagher again was close hitting the post on the hour mark. A few more substitutions followed for Keadue, who went ahead on sixty seven minutes, when Oran Fallon’s good work on the left side of the penalty area, led to a cross hooked in by Odhran Gallagher.
Ballybofey responded well and on seventy eight minutes, were close to equalising when a shot on the penalty spot was blocked by Jack Ward. The game was end to end at this stage and with Ballybofey pressing, Keadue had chances on the break and could’ve easily added to their tally.
They went 3-1 up on eighty six minutes, when a fine ball by Matthew Comiskey was well finished by Tristan Boyle. Two minutes later, the impressive Daithi McMahon finished a fine free kick to the corner of the net.
Keadue though, hung on for the 3 points to finish the league well. Best for Ballybofey were Daithi McMahon and Barry McGee, while best for Keadue were Odhran Gallagher, Oran Fallon and Matthew Comiskey.
